Mount FinMan forward of reel - offset to underside balance point of rod/reel combo (see picture - typically the 8 o' clock position for right hand retrieves and 4 o' clock position for left hand retrieves). This provides the angler with an out-of-the-way tool on the underside of the rod that when needed, will rotate up to the 12 o'clock position for convenient use. Placement of FinMan on casting rods is more forgiving than on spinning rods because casting reels do not create loops of line.
NOTE: FinMan is designed to be mounted “looking” towards the angler - tail towards rod tip and head towards angler.
Mount FinMan forward or aft of reel on split grip rods depending on use preference. For best performance, place FinMan in the 12 o' clock position on any location along the rod blank that doesn't encounter line contact during casting, which could present the possibility of interference due to the looping nature of spinning tackle. Recommended locations include just in front of the fore grip, just behind the first line guide, or behind the reel on split grip rods. Choosing a mounting location on spinning rods is important to ensure proper functionality and unintrusive performance.
NOTE: FinMan is designed to be mounted “looking” towards the angler - tail towards rod tip and head towards angler.
Choose Your O-Ring Size: A total of six O-rings are included with every FinMan (one pair each of small, medium, and large). Choose the correct O-ring size for your rod. Approximate size guide:
Small O-rings fit as small as a ¼” rod
Medium O-rings fit a ½” rod, and
Large O-rings fit up to a ¾” rod.
**NOTE: The solidness of the quad-lock mounting system, designed to eliminate lateral torsion and movement of FinMan on the rod blank, is partially dependent on the effort of the angler. Using the tightest O-ring possible will take longer to attach, but will ultimately lead to a more secure mount.
Attachment Method: Center FinMan in your fingers (holding it at the middle of the body) and snap in both O-rings to the same side. Place the FinMan on your rod blank in your preferred location (see the recommended placement instructions under “Casting Tackle” and “Spinning Tackle” below). Stretch the first O-ring out and around the rod blank until positively attaching to the opposing groove. When performing this action, we recommend aiming the O-ring at the foremost piece of polymer material that slightly protrudes from the rest of the groove. Once hooked onto this point, slide the O-ring all the way into groove with your fingernail. Repeat process with the second O-ring. Adjust rotational placement if necessary.
Removal of FinMan: Many times the FinMan is attached so tightly that removal by hand is difficult. We recommend CAREFULLY sliding a hook under each O-ring to break the seal created after long periods of use. Follow the directions above to reattach FinMan to a different rod.
Primary Features Available off-rod: Thumb-depressible nipper for cutting monofilament or fluorocarbon line.
Placement: Keychains, zingers, lanyards, etc.
Attachment Method: A total of six O-rings are included with every FinMan (one pair each of small, medium, and large).
For zingers or other items that incorporate a snap, simply use the tailfin (hook keeper) as an attachment point.
When mounting to items without a snap (or items with too small of a snap), select one large O-ring, feeding the O-ring through the tailfin (hook keeper) and back through itself, pulling tight. Use the open loop created by the O-ring as a miniature “bungee” like attachment.
